WI Fraternal Order of Police Remembers September 11, 2001

MADISON, WI — September 11, 2026

On this solemn anniversary, the Brothers and Sisters of the Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police remember and honor the lives lost and the heroes of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

It is hard to believe that 25 years have passed since that day. For those of us who were alive when it happened, we remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we first heard the news or watched the attacks unfold live on television. Those memories remain with us to this day.

As we reflect on the events of September 11 and the profound impact they have had on our lives, our communities, and our nation, we must never forget the innocent lives lost that day and the families, friends, and loved ones left behind.

As law enforcement officers, we especially remember the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. Without hesitation, they ran toward danger, not away from it. Their courage, dedication, and bravery embody the highest ideals of public service. We honor their memory and will never forget the sacrifices they made.

We also remember the brave service members and military personnel at the Pentagon who were faithfully carrying out their duties when that facility was attacked. They, too, answered the call to serve and protect our nation, and we honor their sacrifice.

We remember the unsung civilian heroes aboard United Flight 93 who, under the most unimaginable circumstances, came together and chose to take decisive action against evil. Their courage and selflessness, captured forever in the words “Let’s Roll,” undoubtedly saved countless lives and stand as a powerful reminder of what ordinary Americans can accomplish when confronted with extraordinary circumstances.

In the aftermath of September 11, our nation came together and united in a way not seen for generations. Flags flew, neighbors stood together, and Americans from every walk of life joined in a shared determination to protect our country and seek justice for those responsible for the attacks.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember those we lost, honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognize the courage of everyone who answered the call. We also continue to honor those who survived 9/11 and the sacrifices they have made, as they continue to live with the physical and emotional toll of that day and its lasting impact.

Honor. Remember. Respect.

Never Forget.
