SB-192 has been introduced into the WI Senate, and it requires the payment of health insurance premiums and establishes a loan program for the surviving spouse and children of a Law Enforcement Officer or EMT that dies in the line of duty.

Legislation already exists that provides this benefit for Firefighters, and this Bill extends this benefit to LEOs and EMTs.

We ask that you join us in publicly supporting this Bill. Contact your Senator today, and urge them to do whatever is necessary to make sure this Bill is made into Law.

In light of recent negativity directed toward law enforcement nationally, there is a need to show law enforcement officers that our citizens recognize the difficult and sometimes impossible career they have chosen, in public service to us all.  In response, the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has partnered with Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) on a National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day scheduled for January 9th, 2015.

Each day law enforcement officers across our country put a badge on and go to work knowing they may face extremely dangerous situations. The pay is low, the hours can be terrible, and there is little appreciation for what they do - yet, they do it anyway because it is a calling.

Often times, the public doesn’t see is the cost of keeping our communities safe.  On average, between 105 and 203 officers die in the line of duty each year; 50,000 officers are assaulted in the line of duty each year; 14,000 officers are injured in the line of duty each year; and over 300 officers commit suicide each year.  With the exception of the military, there is no other profession in the world where you will find these kinds of statistics.  A law enforcement officer must be professional, courteous, caring and yet be ready to protect the public at all times. They must be prepared to make life and death decisions in a moment’s notice. They take an amazing amount of abuse at times, but have to view this abuse as just “part of the job,” and often do not have the liberty to express their emotions during many situations.  No matter how much abuse law enforcement takes, the officers continue to do their job, and do it well.

Law enforcement officers play such an integral part in our society, and without them, chaos would reign.
They are the guardians of our way of life and they deserve our support .... and we believe that the vast majority of our communities support law enforcement, but they are very rarely given the opportunity to show it.

The WI State Lodge FOP would like to invite all those citizens who are discouraged by recent media trends and support their law enforcement, to attend one of the many Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (LEAD) rallies that will be held on January 9th.  There will be several events throughout the state, and we will be giving out T-shirts and stickers to law enforcement supporters at the FOP sponsored rallies, while supplies last.

If you can’t make it to one of the support rallies, you can show still show your support in a number of other ways:
1. Change their profile picture on social media to the image shown above
2. See a police officer? Thank a police officer
3. Wear blue clothing in support of law enforcement
4. Send a card of support to your local police or sheriff’s department
5. Share a positive story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media
6. Participate in Project Blue Light by proudly displaying a blue light in support of law enforcement.
7. Business owners can advertise their support through local media outlets, billboards, signs, or store front marquis
8. Children can draw a picture or write a letter and drop it off at your local police or sheriff’s department

Thank you for your support!
